A ceiling cornice visually lifts the ceiling line, especially in rooms with low ceilings (2.5–2.7 m). If curtains hang far below the ceiling, the space feels 'cut off'. Wall-mounted cornices work best in rooms with high ceilings or when you want to highlight the window shape or wall design.

Sheer tulle, heavy drapes, blackout fabrics — the curtain’s weight determines what the structure can support. Ceiling profiles are often used with light textiles, though reinforced options exist. Wall cornices allow for decorative rods and heavy fabrics but require sturdy brackets and proper construction.

Materials, Design, and Aesthetics

Metal (aluminum, steel, brass), wood, baguette trims, concealed profiles — each creates a distinct character. Ceiling systems often use profiles that can be hidden or covered with molding. Wall rods offer more variety in finials, rod styles, and finishes.

Mounting and Construction — No Compromises

For ceiling mounting, the base must be strong (concrete, wood beam, embedded fixtures), especially with drywall or stretch ceilings. Wall cornices require durable brackets that won’t deform over time. Placement must be planned to ensure secure and discreet mounting.

Width, Clearance, and Symmetry

Even small errors in placement can make curtains look droopy or squeezed. The cornice should extend beyond the window opening so the curtains can fully open without blocking light or radiators. With ceiling cornices, ensure the fabric just touches — not drags on — the floor.
